| the man behind the legend |
name ;; John Hancock age ;; 3000, give or take species ;; God, Angel, take your pick sexuality ;; ladies only, please what’s cookin good lookin ;; Hancock has the appearance of what seems to be the average man. He is African American, with characteristic black hair and dark eyes. He is well built and muscled, despite his boozing ways, which appears to be the natural state of his body. Previously, he style of dress reflected the way he lived. Old shirt, a ratty t-shirt and sweat shirt, and a beanie with an eagle on the brim—which later becomes his symbol. After his stay in prison, Ray provides him with his superhero uniform. While a bit tight, it is a mostly leather suit that was intended to give him a professional look when he’s out saving the day. Hancock wears sunglasses with both styles of dress, partially to protect his identity, and partially because they look badass. tell me a little about yourself ;; Hancock is by no means a people person. Whether he means to or not, he often rubs people the wrong way. However, after working with Ray, his people skills have improved considerably. He has a short temper, though his anger is not usually expressed in an explosive way. Whether he likes it or not, Hancock is innately driven to help people. Where at first he was reluctant to take on the role of a true hero, he comes to both accept and treasure his responsibility. When it comes to making friends he tends to brush people off, but those that are especially persistent (Ray being the best example) can be successful. He’s far more intelligent than he lets on, his strength lying in ‘street smarts’ after having spent so many years out on the streets of LA. Hancock is clever, and works well under pressure; even life or death situations don’t seem to faze him. |
| the legend behind the man |
he’s got a few tricks up his sleeve ;; Hancock posses many superhuman powers that are attributed to his race. He is capable of supersonic flight, superhuman strength, is invulnerable, and does not age. However, those of his race were created in pairs, and when they are with their opposite they become mortal—allowing them to age and die. it’s my kryptonite ;; Ever since losing his memory (around roughly 1928), Hancock became a much more surly, uncooperative person. After working with Ray he improved considerably, but his people skills still need some work. He can rub people the wrong way both accidentally and intentionally. His biggest weakness is Mary, his predestined wife and his other half. When they are too close to each other they become weaker, losing their powers and becoming mortal. Beyond that she (along with Ray and Aaron) can be considered his weakness because he’ll jump into any situation to save them, regardless of the danger to himself. we didn’t ask for your life story ;; John Hancock (though his true name is unknown) was first created roughly 3000 years ago, along with the rest of his kind. His race were all created in pairs, their partner being the one they were destined to be with. When two partners of their race came together, they became mortal, allowing them to age, have children, and die. The entirety of their race was wiped out because of this, save for them. Hancock almost died several times trying to protect Mary. Each time they would split up in their attempt to remain alive, but members of their race are inevitably drawn together. In roughly 1928, Mary and John were on their way to see the movie Frankenstein when they were mugged. Naturally, John stepped in to protect Mary—and ended up in the hospital with severe head trauma. When he woke up, he didn’t remember anything. Mary visited him briefly, but when she realized that he had amnesia she saw this as her opportunity to leave in hopes that it would keep the both of them safe. He awoke with no ID, only a pack of gum and their movie tickets in his pocket. When he went to sign himself out of the hospital, he realized that he didn’t even know what his name was. The nurse at the desk told him to “give her his John Hancock”, and he misunderstood what she meant and thought that ‘John Hancock’ was his name. He has gone by just ‘Hancock’ since that day. With no one to turn to, Hancock first assumed that he was a bastard child with no family and no home. It was not long before he became aware of the powers he possessed. Hancock’s brand of heroics was looked down upon by the city of LA. He was a sloppy superhero, drunk and surly the majority of the time. His landings were sloppy, and he had a bad habit of doing more harm than good. Whether it was the simple act of landing or how he took care of criminals, Hancock cost the city millions of dollars worth of damage. One day, PR spokesperson Ray Embrey was unfortunate enough to get stuck in traffic…right on the railroad tracks. His panic in trying to escape his car was his undoing, and his fate seemed certain. Hancock arrived just in time, saving him by flipping Ray’s car backward onto another car, and stopping the train with his shoulder. This caused a major train crash, resulting in more damage. Many of those who had been stuck in the surrounding traffic took the time to get out of their cars and heckle Hancock. Ray defended Hancock against the crowd, thanking him for saving his life. Hancock gave Ray a lift home (literally), meeting Ray’s son Aaron and wife Mary. Mary showed a distinct dislike for the ‘superhero’. Hancock would have been fine with the spaghetti dinner as a thanks, but Ray wanted to take it a step further. He gave Hancock a business card and offered to help him revamp his image, and to make him into a true superhero that the people of LA would love, not scorn. The offer was brushed off initially, but Hancock returns to hear Ray out. Begrudgingly, Hancock agrees to serve time in prison, Ray stating that it will help the public realize that they need Hancock. After a month in jail, Hancock is called to help save an officer and hostages in a bank robbery. Hancock, trying out his new attitude for the first time (and his new costume), saves the officer and the hostages, cutting off the hand of the gang leader involved in the holdup. As Ray predicted, Hancock’s popularity skyrockets. Hancock, Ray, and Mary are invited to a party to celebrate Hancock’s new superhero-dom. Hancock took Ray and Mary home, and after Ray passed out Hancock tried to act on his strange attraction to Mary. Mary responded by throwing him through a wall. Confused, Hancock flew off after Mary’s threat that she’d kill him if he told Ray about her powers. The next morning, the hole in the wall was credited to Hancock sneezing. Hancock demanded that Mary meet him at his place (a trailer on top of a canyon) and explain what was going on. When she arrived, she explained to him how they had been husband and wife, the secrets of their race, and the story behind his amnesia. After the revelation from Mary, Hancock turned back to his alcoholic tendencies. Inside of the liquor store, he realized that the clerk was being held up. He grabbed the first criminal through the counter and threw him into a glass case. The second criminal shot him twice before being flung through the liquor store’s front window. Affected by being so close to Mary, Hancock is wounded by the bullets and rushed to the hospital. The story is covered by the news, revealing Hancock’s location to the leader of the bank robbery, freshly escaped from jail. With two accomplices (whom Hancock humiliated during his stay in prison) they arrive at the hospital, intent on killing Hancock. Mary tries to protect him, taking several bullets to the stomach and chest. Hancock struggles to fight back, unable to save her but throwing down a vending machine to protect Ray and Aaron. He takes care of the two ‘lesser’ criminals, but is mercilessly beaten (and stabbed once) by their leader. Now mortal, his body is unable to withstand it. Ray ultimately saves Hancock’s life by chopping off the gangster’s hand with a fire axe. As Mary dies, Hancock’s body begins to heal itself. Still unsteady and not completely back to his superhero self, Hancock struggles through the streets of LA to get as far away as he can. It does the trick, and Mary recovers in the hospital as her body becomes immortal once more. Sacrificing his one chance at happiness and love, Hancock moves to New York City to allow Mary and Ray to continue their marriage and live together. He repays Ray for everything he’s done for him by painting the All-Heart (a charity Ray has been trying to get big companies to sponsor) symbol on the moon. | Layout profile code thanks to ReversesCollide |
